You could set a password to open the PDF file and make the password the purchaser's credit card number and expiry date. Very effective - perhaps the most effective method I have ever come across - but a pain for the purchaser. Another option is to put information about yourself, the author, in a footer on every page. If the document is distributed widely then at least you get some advertising out of it. This could be worth it. If you include a serial number in the document somewhere, it gives you the option to sue the original purchaser and recoup some money if you ever find out that the doc was illegally distributed. The BEST option is to include a brief message that the purchaser does not have the right to distribute the document. Easy. Cheap. Keeps honest people honest - which is all you are going to ever achieve with expensive protection software - and involves a minimum of pain for the purchaser. Many people simply do not buy copy protected IP. It's too much of a PITA. You're not Microsoft, and most people are honest. > Hi, > > I am just about to produce an eBook as a chargeable PDF document. > > Does anybody know of any software that helps to prevent the PDF > documents from illegally being distributed? > IMPORTANT - This email and any attachments are confidential and may be privileged in which case neither is intended to be waived.
