Thus, Distiller would have to deal with (nearly) the same PostScript that your printer is having problems with. If Distiller fails as well, it's a PostScript issue. If Distiller has not problem, it is more probable that it is a printer issue (to make the font situation more similar for Distiller it would be a good idea, to go to Settings/Font locations and remove all the font folders there).
