Yes, there was at least one such set of joboptions with Acrobat 4.
But there is also one set of joboptions with Acrobat 6 without
embedding as well. I would certainly not recommend such joboptions
with any version of Acrobat.
And anyone who used PDFWriter pretty much got what they deserved! (8^)>
With regards to the "headless Distiller" that came with PageMaker 6.5
years back, that was Distiller 3 which obviously did not allow
embedding of the "base 13 + Dingbats" fonts.
