RC4 *was* a "trade secret". Trade secrets are the weakest form of intellectual property. When a trade secret becomes public knowledge, you're basically screwed. RC4 has become public knowledge... End of story. Code was placed on some newsgroup and verified as being equivalent. This "Alleged RC4" algorithm (ARC4) is now available for free, all legal-like, for anyone who cares to use it. It was not a copy of RSI's code. I've used Wei Dai's crypto library in the past... good stuff: http://www.eskimo.com/~weidai/cryptlib.html I googled up a number of pages (116, ymmv) mentioning RC4's ex-secret status : http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=RC4+ARC4+%22trade+sec ret%22 --Mark Storer Software Engineer Cardiff Software #include <disclaimer> typdef std::disclaimer<Cardiff> Discard; > -----Original Message----- > From: Harvey, Rebecca [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: Friday, August 08, 2003 7:50 AM > To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' > Subject: [PDFdev] standard security handler > > > > PDFdev is a service provided by PDFzone.com | http://www.pdfzone.com > _____________________________________________________________ > > On a windows machine is there any utility available to me > that I can use to > implement the standard security handler algorithm (RC4).
