I have a PDF that is created dynamically (using commerical tools) which uses a color key image mask to hide portions of a image in the PDF. The PDF is fine onscreen and I don't think there is any issue with its structure. Instead, my issue is printing and differences in printing between Acrobat 4 and Acrobat 5.0.x/Reader 5.x. When I print to an inkjet printer (Epson or HP) using Acrobat 4, the PDF prints the same as shown onscreen and as expected with the mask being utilized. However, if I print the same PDF using Acrobat 5.0.x or Reader 5.x, the image mask prints as whitespace in the output. Also, the image mask shows up as whitespace regardless of the actual color that was in the image. In other words, it isn't just ignoring the image mask and showing the whole picture, it's not printing anything where the mask is active. I am aware of the Adobe spec implementation note which indicates that masks should only work with Postscript Level 3, but why is it that Acrobat 4 prints it out OK but version 5 Acrobat/Reader (I have not been able to test on v6 yet) do not. Is there some setting in 5 which would allow the masks to work as they do in v4? Regards, -J To change your subscription: http://www.pdfzone.com/discussions/lists-pdfdev.html
