I've had a request to 'not embed TTF' files .. to allow for a reduction in
PDF file size. The user has stated that it won't be an issue since the
non-embedded font is a standard Windows font and all his users will have the
font on their computers.

It may be a "standard Windows font" today, but what about in Longhorn? Or post-Longhorn? Does it exist on Mac OS? or Unix?

There are MANY better ways to reduce the size of PDF documents (including tools such as PDF Enhancer - http://www.apago.com/enhancer.html) than making PDFs that won't stand the test of time.

But in my code I have always embedded the font ... for obvious reasons.

Good - do NOT change now!!!
