First off, great application! I used it for my 2007 tax returns and it
helped.
-- Bug --
One problem I found was the speed of the application slowed down with
each text I added. Every time I added a new piece of text, it took
longer to complete the operation. I didn't time it, but let's say the
first time I added text it took 1 sec, the second piece of text I added
took 2 sec, the third 3 sec, ... the tenth 10 sec. I was forced to save
the file and restart the application after every 5 or so text additions
simply because it was faster than waiting. The number of characters in
each text element did not seem to make a difference on the time. The
time was incurred when I finished adding it. So with the Add Text tool,
I click somewhere on the PDF, and it displays the text input field
relatively quickly. I type my text and then when I'm done, either
clicking somewhere else in the document or on the scroll bar, or the
title bar, PDFedit then "committed" the text to the document. It was
this "commit" stage which incurred the increasing time.
-- Feature Request --
It would be great to have the ability to right-align text. Most of the
editing in tax forms are numbers so it would be convenient to be able to
click the Add Text option on the right-most part of the field and have
the text right-aligned to that point (meaning the text would 'grow' to
the left).
System specs:
- Gentoo Linux
- gcc 4.1.2
- PDFedit 0.4.1
- compiled from source, no custom compile or link flags
- Boost 1.34.1
- compiled from source, compile flags:
-O2 -march=athlon64 -mfpmath=sse -mmmx -msse -msse2 -msse3
-m3dnow -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer
- AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+
- 4GB RAM
Good job!
Best regards,
Nick
