I am not sure we understood us correctly therefore I will try to be more comprehensive. Please, send my your views on this matter and I really hope we find ways how to make something useful. == Technical details == First, we should discuss the technical details and define requirements. From the technical point of view, accessible documents simply mean "tagged documents" and in other words semantically rich. This can be done according to pdf specification (p. 812 or similar http://www.alistapart.com/d/pdf_accessibility/PDFtags.html). You can add semantic information by e.g. specifying that a figure is on x,y position or that there is a mathematical formula on that page, that there is a table, there is a heading etc. I can extend the pdfedit library with this "tagging" feature. I would need the requirements for the tags (which tags to include/exact use cases). I also offered to create a command line tool (win32/linux) which can use the tagging feature e.g. ./add_tag --file test.pdf --page 1 --what image --where 10,10 --how-to-describe "This is a very nice tree with one lemon." BUT that is it what I can offer you now! == Applicability == The main question is, how can you use it? You would have to manually add the tags which is, probably one part, what you want. BUT you will have to ask somebody else to create the GUI because, imho, command line tool will be too ineffective/hard to use for many pdf's. For example, finding an image or text without graphically selecting it maybe ambiguous with only x,y position (but we can try). And secondly, I cannot promise you to include the tools which USE the tags e.g. reading the text out loud like Adobe Reader or handle the tags anyhow but I think you are more familiar with these tools. So you end up with a tagged pdf but you have to use external tools for really accessing it. Hope we understood us now :). == Other background == If you are asking why word/excel/other document formats can automatically create tagged documents it is because they have semantics inside their document format (whether it is a title or which color, whether it is an image etc.).
