Respectfully, seeking to bend over backwards to try to work when stated 
prerequisites (not introduced by me) aren't present due to using a clearly 
underfunctional tool (seriously, do try cpanm - you won't ever want to go 
back) seems like a pointless task.

CPAN is one of the install paths we support, so I was giving it a try. 
Usually I don't have any issues.
