Fred,

This is very helpful indeed.  What I'm trying to ascertain is
about how much more image I'd capture using the 77mm lens as
opposed to one of the 85mm lenses for a specific situation. 
Since I don't have a 77mm lens at the moment,  it's hard to make
a comparison.  Your brick wall comparison

is very helpful in that it shows how close the 85s are to one
another.  Now, here are the key questions: How far from the wall
were you, and how wide is the image you captured?  If I recall,
your results are from scanned photos, not directly from the
negatives.  If that's the case, some of the image is probably
lost, and the pictures don't represent the actual image caught
on the film.

Thanks so much for all the work and  time you've put into your
response.  It's  been a super help, and I certainly appreciate
it.
