My wife has a ZX-5n, which came with the (awful!) 28-80
kit lens. I say awful strictly because of it's build quality,
or the lack of it. It takes (actually, took) the kind of pictures
she wants. It's just badly made! The zoom feature went first - just
won't zoom the full range, even when off the body. Now the
AF seems kinda trick - sometimes it will and sometimes it
won't. And it sounds like something's loose inside. Todays clue:
when you try to fit the lens cap, the inner barrel collapses inside
the outer barrel -- like maybe a gear's stripped??
I think one of the screws was loosen and needed to be tightened. I think.

In any case, I'd like a substitute lens, in the 28/35 to 80/105
range, that's not too expensive (200 bucks??) and that
is well made and won't fall apart (guess that leaves
Pentax lenses out?). So far we are considering a Tamron
AF 28-105mm f/4.0-5.6 IF (from B&H) for $145
and a Tokina 28-105 from a local dealer for $219
(can't find this lens on the web anywhere!).
What about FA28-105/3.2-4.5 AL IF?
