So you've got the urge to buy "big glass" but you can't afford long + fast in K mount. True, you can adapt an M42 screwmount lens. But who wants to fiddle with an adapter each time he installs or removes the lens?
You won't have to...if you fit the lens to a K-mount adapter, then fit the adapter to a K-mount teleconverter. The result is a K-mount lens that locks on or twists off in seconds, without tools, just like a "real" K mount lens. Of course, you'll have to settle for stop-down metering. But you may find the optical bounty worth it. For example, a Super Takumar 500/4.5 + M42-to-K adapter + 1.4XL teleconverter = 700/6.3K. I used this combination during the two months or so when I owned this lens. You lose nothing, because even the K mount version lacks an autodiaphragm. Other intriguing combinations: 400/4 Zoomar Sport or Pentacon + M42-to-K adapter + 1.4X teleconverter = 560/5.6K. 400/4.5 Piesker Tele-Picon, Enna Tele-Ennalyt, or Fujinon-T EBC + M42-to-K adapter + 1.4X teleconverter = 560/6.3K. 500/5.6 Pentacon or Orestegor (same lens) + M42-to-K adapter + 1.4X teleconverter =700/8. 600/5.6 Fujinon EBC _ M42-t-K adapter + 1.4X adapter = 840/8. Many PDMLers know and use this strategy by using a 300/2.8K lens with a 1.4X, 1.7X, or 2X teleconverter. I'm suggesting that this same strategy can make the impossible possible (a 560/5.6K for $300) for those willing to give up modern amenities. [EMAIL PROTECTED]
