Outdoor Photographer is generally my favorite, maybe as much for subject
matter as for writing. I usually enjoy Dewitt Jones columns. Makes me
think and look at things from different perspectives. I rarely find
criticism there however.

Balian's Photoworld is good, if skimpy.

Photo Life, a Canadian magazine is also one I enjoy, as well as some British
journals (can't remember names)

I may be an anglophile, but it seems the Canadian & British magazines are
somewhat less blatantly commerical.

I have to say that I find most magazines tend to be recycled versions of
themselves. Every winter it's how to take pictures in snow and ice and how
to care for the camera. Every fall it's about capturing the season's
colors. Every spring it's flower technique, and every summer it's how to
take the best travel photos/swimsuit shots, over & over & over & over, month
after month, year after year. Can't blame them I guess. For that reason I
love to find them at a library or used book shop. That way they're either
free or pennies on the dollar.
