You'll get used to it and will find it easy to cut & paste, and more
specifically very suitable for photo editing - you can place the pointer on
a particular pixel or spot very accurately with any optical mouse, but
especially with the optical trackball.

i abandoned track balls after about 4 years of use. it simply doesn't offer
the control even a mouse has for photo editing. why? because you can't do a
smooth stroke in a given direction and shape. i still have one track ball i
use on a machine that has essentially no desk space. i use a Wacom Intuous
6x8 and it is what anyone doing photo retouching work should be using.
anything less eats your time.
