The official list price of Optio S in Japan is 65,000 yen, which is 5,000 yen more than Optio 330GS. Very attractive!

The MSLP is said to be set at $425 at introduction, and street price is expected to be only some $15-20 lower. That's only what I've read online...I have no way to know whether it's true or not. > Apart from it's size, can anybody roughly tell me what the Optio S > offers in terms of specifications in comparison to other existing > digital Point and Shoots in the same price range? > (I am not up to date on digitals.) Look at this, from Pentax themselves: http://www.pentax.com/products/cameras/camera_overview.cfm?productid=18263 There is a convenient comparison section accessible from that page. Also, a fairly comprehensive hands-on approach to a first look at the camera. This is a most excellent site: http://www.letsgodigital.nl/webpages/firstlook/pentax/optioS/pentax_OptioS_uk.html > Or in other words: > Why should I buy it? It will produce most excellent 4x6 photos or larger, with beautiful color and no noticeable lens physical (distortion) or chromatic aberrations, free from flare and glare. Beautiful SMC Pentax lens...with a maximum aperture of f/2.6, an equivalent 35mm focal length of 35mm to 105mm, and an impressive manual focus range from 2.4 inches to infinity! The other "why buy" reasons are up to you. If you want the most features with very credible performance, in the smallest package, this about fills the bill. > Why should I not? Only you can answer that. What is it you _must_ have that the S doesn't provide? No-one else can answer that for you. > (Other than the possible disadvantages of the > sliding lenses etc.) That this unique feature might be a 'disadvantage' in any way still has to be proven. Right now that is in the realm of wild supposition, with no single fact in evidence to support it. If that possibility bothers you, you could wait some 5 or 6 years, see if anyone reports problems from lens group misalignment... <smile> > > Lasse keith whaley
