Yah, I guess so. I have used them for several years. The lithium batteries
tend to work best in intermittent high current applications like a winder or
strobe. They seem to fail very quickly in steady low current applications.
I tried them in my speaker phone and they did not last as long as regular
batteries.
In the appropriate application they seem to last 2 to 6 times longer than
Alkalines. Their shelf life is incredible. You can expect them to perform
almost as well as new after several years of sitting. I never have gotten
the ten years they claim but I keep them in my Mini-Maglite (AA flashlight)
and they are good for 5 or 6 years. Also you can usually use them in place
of alkalines. Some devices do not have current limiting necessary for
ni-cads.
The AA which AFAIK are the only 1.5v lithium batteries have a slightly
higher base voltage than alkalines which translates to slightly higher cycle
rates with winders and strobes, but it is only 10% or so. Both will give
higher cycle rates than ni-cad or ni-mh which are nominally 1.2 volts.
I have found the new Duracell Ultras to have a much longer life than
standard alkalines, but I don't know if it is enough to pay for the
difference in price. I don't have enough experience with them yet to tell.

generics. And they were cheapest!
