Bruce, a metering spec is not an AF spec.  I do trust
Pentax metering specs.

It doesn't tell you how long it takes to aquire and achieve focus, or what the contrast of the target is. The only way to know which camera really works better is to try the cameras out in the same light levels, with the same subjects and the same speed & focal length lenses.
Spec sheets are marketing tools. You have to know what they aren't telling you as much as what they are.

So you have wrong data. AF in MZ-5N and MZ-6 works from -1 EV without any assist and it is much better than +1EV in EOS models you have mentioned.
