There may be some misunderstanding here somewhere.  B&H claims under
the specifications of the *ist: "Lens mount KAF2 (also KAF, KA & K
mounts usable)"
Perhaps there still is some hope...

The prototypes that Pentax showed at PMA and CeBit fetured the
crippled
mount, so there is a small chance that the *ist will not meter
properly
with K and M lenses.  On the positive side, Pentax has loudly said
that
the *ist D will fully support all lenses.
