OMG I hadn't thought about the future for my F85/2.8 Soft. The worst case is that it'll work as a manual aperture lens from f2.8 to f8, but the apertures smaller than f8 will be ignored, and selecting them will give f8 anyway. OTOH, although this lens lacks an A position it has all the A contacts on the mount, and the stopdown lever should be the linear type. A was left off the aperture ring because Pentax felt that the f number selection should be made consciously by the photographer and not left up to program AE or shutter priority AE.
Considering that this IS NOT a 20+ year old lens but a very expensive fairly recent model (and I don't think the very recent FA version has "A" either), I think I should fire off a "please explain" request to the local Pentax agent. Thank God I got this lens very cheap. Any cheaper would have been shoplifting :) regards, Anthony Farr ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roland Mabo" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >From: Arnold Stark <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > >Subject: Re: *ist D revisited > >Date: Fri, 06 Jun 2003 07:31:18 +0200 > > > >Manual aperture lenses stops down by tehmselves.
