To my eye, this old pentax lens has less flare than
the newer Canon.  Of course, the shots are different.
I've always wondered if Pentax "SMC" is really better,
but I'm beginning to suspect it is.

I have 5 third party primes and one third party zoom.
Particularly, with the zoom, there are shots I don't take
because flare is so evident in the viewfinder.

With one of the primes (the Phoenix 100mm macro), there
have also been times I didn't shoot for the same reason.

How 'bout it folks, is SMC hype or real?
