New car syndrome? Where the plasticisers used to make the plastic run
properly into the moulds sublime from the plastic mouldings/castings in
the vehicle on a hot day and condense on the windows. Manufacturers are
_supposed_ to allow the mouldings to cure (i.e. let the plasticisers
leach away under controlled conditions) as they are quite nasty
chemicals, despite giving cars that "new car" smell.

Given the rapid turnover of digital products, I suspect that it is
residual leachate from improperly cured castings. Removes easily but
you may have to do some serious dismantling. I had to clear some off
the lens system of my Craposcan. Didn't make it focus any better.....
