Actually, no, the plural of octopus is octopuses, as octopus is a
corruption of octopod (i.e. eight feet) and isn't a proper Latin word at
all. 

There are some even more tricky rules about whether a word should end in
"ise" or "ize" which have something to do with whether the original word
was derived from greek or latin.

The real question is whether 3 LXs would be a CLXXX....
