That's about what I've been hearing as well.  From what I understand,
digital minilabs are becoming more and more common.  The store I work at
has both optical and digital equipment, but is using the digital machine a
lot more.  Optical prints can be trickier to do, as everything has to be
kept immaculately clean or dust spots start appearing, but they look
better to my eyes than digital ones.  At 4x6 and smaller sizes it's not
really noticeable, but enlargements are different.

I don't see film disappearing, but I can definitely see digital taking its
place for most people.  Film will still be used for artistic purposes, but
digital will be the norm for photography.  This is guaranteed... it's just
a question of when.
