The word "swastika" has Sanskrit roots, and swastikas of different sorts
are quite common in ancient Indian artwork (as well as in European artwork
from the decades just before the Nazi era). First known usage in English
is in 1871, according to Merriam-Webster. I don't think the word is German
in any way.
