Back in the mid-90's, I had a F801s with some AF Nikkors. While the AF 
Nikkor  70-210/4-5.6D was a lemon optically, the dirty cheap 35-70/3.5-4.5 
was really great. I had never seen that kind of vivid colour from Pentax 
lenses. For casual travelling pictures, the results appear much more 
eye-catching than Pentax lenses. That dirty cheap Nikkor zoom had better 
build quality than FA28-70/4AL too. Even now, I am convinced mid end AF 
Nikkors zooms are better built than FA zooms (non powerzooms).

The 28-70 FA AL f4 (not sure about the combination of letters!) is supposed 
to be one of the best in its class.

made and better optically (although why can't I find any amateur 28-80
pentax lens that people will stand up and shout about?) than anybody 
elses.
