Kirk and others make ballheads that have a dovetail shaped quick release head
that is modeled after the Arca Swiss ball head which is a kinda standard. There
is a generic plate that comes with the head, but plates are made to fit
specific camera's and tripod mounts of larger lenses. All have the
/___________\ shaped profile that fits into the quick release head. All fit
the Arca Swiss Quick Release ball head, hence the name "Arca Swiss Style..."
