I am thinking of getting the Beattie Intenscreen Diagonal Split
screen for my PZ-1 since I have difficulty focusing with my
Pentax 35-105 f/3.5 manual focus specially when trying macro
shots.

How does one change the focusing screen? Will the instructions
come with the beattie screen? Can I do it at home? I am not very
technically inclined though reasonably so with electronics
and gadgets.

I have one on my PZ1. Very easy to change, you just need to be delicate. The screen comes with a pair of plastic tweezers. First thing you do is throw that in the round filing cabinet.

Then get yourself a proper fine pair of metal tweezers. Eyebrow pluckers work too.

Take the lens off the camera, and there is a little clip in the roof of the mirror box. Depress this clip and the frame with the screen comes loose. Gently lower the frame, and you can grab the screen by the tab on the corner. Be very careful not to touch the surface anywhere.

Then just reverse the process to install the Beattie.

One nice thing about the split screen is that it is also about the size of the spotmeter.

Have had no probs spot/matrix metering with this screen - doesn't seem to be much different in brightness compared to the Pentax screen, but it is nicer to use with MF.
