I find that to be true myself.

BTW the hyperfocal distance is fixed for a given f-stop on a given focal length. You can easily memorize it for your most used combinations. Say, f8, and f16 at 24mm, 35mm, and 50mm (that is only 6 to remember) which should do for most landscape work. Just manually set the lens to that memorized hyperfocal distance and everything from about 1/2 of that distance to infinity will be sharp.
