Mitsubishi fabs alpha processors. They were one of the outsources that the US government insisted upon before the breakup of DEC. Intel and Samsung were the others. Intel loved it they actually got the DEC fab and the use of alpha technology which allowed their current processors to be made. I have not been keeping up with this stuff, so do not know what is in the works for the next generation which should be beyond the old DEC technology.

The fact they chose to sell not quite junk consumer stuff under their name does not mean they do not have the capabiliy to produce highend electronics. After all they are (or at least were) the largest conglomerate in Japan.

What about the chances of their parent company doing it? The have some of the most advanced fabs in the world.

Who's their parent company?

Mitsubishi.

<Gag> Wow! Now I'm *really* glad I don't own any Nikon gear! (I'm
suppressing memories of when I was an electronics technician and worked
on Mitsubishi audio and video gear...)

Anyway, the chances of Mitsubishi getting into a fab of this kind are
only slightly greater than those of Nikon doing so.
