Maybe the high resolution that these printers use isn't necessary.  He
prints his out at 300 dpi but he is using a 4 pass $12,000 Kodak Printer on
their special paper.  They look great on 8 x 12 prints. He is using a nice
flat bed scanner but I have taken files from my computer as 300 dpi, messed
with PhotoShop and they were very nice. Remember though, Black and White
takes more dpi to convey the same picture as color.
