Just as we were discussing this, one suddenly emerged in the used equipment department of Lmork's in Oslo. They had priced it at 498,- (still Norwegian kroner), and they don't have it anymore, since it's now safely stored in the shelf just beside me...Toralf wrote:
I had a closer look at this teleconverter today, and unfortunately it
turned out to be the other variant - or at least it had nothing about
"macro" on the box, and didn't look like it had as much as 7 elements
- so I didn't buy it. Maybe the offer was still reasonable, though; it
was only demo-used, and price was NOK 395,-
Toralf... It's possible that Vivitar has discontinued this item, but eBay
may be an option. They routinely appear for $50 to $75 used. As a matter of
fact, it looks like Henry's has some on eBay now in a Pentax mount. Oddly
enough, I couldn't find them at their on-line store.
Strange - last time I visited them, not looking for anything in particular, they didn't have much Pentax equipment at all. Now that I wanted this teleconverter... Maybe I have some kind of Special Powers. I'll try to think really hard about something else I want the next time I drop in, and see what happens...
Be aware that there is an Auto version that includes KA couplings, as wellLooks like this is the auto version, too. I'm wondering about how the aperture setup works, though. Seems like there is a bit of an inconsistency between manual and "auto" and manual setup. - But perhaps that's normal for this kind of telekonverter; maybe the camera doesn't "see" the light stolen by the converter in terms of f-stops.
as a non-Auto version that will be slightly cheaper.
Like others that have responded, I also enjoy using this tool. The quality is good, and the price is right. I don't think its results would beat the 100/2.8 Macro, but I can't afford that lens anyway.
