Why not? it seems like a good solution to me.  Rather like the friend of 
mine who built a wine cellar by creating a small structure in his garage and 
putting the stripped-out compressor and coolant rack from a domestic 
refrigerator in there - ran all day and night and maintained an air 
temperature of 10C!

I used a deep sink of water at 40C to maintain the chemicals in the
tank at approximately the recommended temperature, and did not find my
results significantly affected by any deviation from the standard
Can one use a decent aquarium heater to keep things at 40deg?
