What caliber do you recommend for that?

But seriously I generally carry as little as I think I can get away with.

When I expect to be shooting b&w I will carry a set of red, green and
yellow filters (although I cannot remember the last time I used them).

Otherwise

One body
One or two lenses
2x multiplier
Polarizing filter with (stepdown ring)
Microfiber cloth
extra film
Kodak pocket data guide.
Small autoflash
Light tripod (that lives in my car).

For more serious expeditions:
Backup body
more lenses
Lens cleaning tissues & fluid
Lens brush
spare batteries.
Heavy tripod

I used to carry an ancient gossen Luna Pro with narrow angle attachment but
since batteries for it have become impossible to find it's been retired.
