Ah the young. Between the introduction of the OM system and the Pen-F cameras Olympus fielded the
FTL, which to my eye looks/looked like they bought the bodies from Mamya, they used M42 lenses with
a proprietary open-aperture mechanism much like that from Mamya.

Did I just read that right?

I wasn't aware that Olympus made M42-mount lenses....or that OM lenses could be adapted to M42 or K. If true, that opens up a whole new world....

As far as "sharper focus" goes, you might just be noticing the difference in the viewfinders of each camera; the Ricoh's viewfinder may just be darker than the Spotmatic's.
