Still the 8mp is a slight improvement,
To put 8mp in perspective, 6mp is 2000x3000 pixels, more or less. The 8mp Canon is 2300x3450, more or less.
Definitely a slight improvement, in the real world, you can make a print 1 inch bigger in both dimensions before resorting to interpolation, presuming a print resolution of 320ppi (the accepted standard in my end of the industry)
