I think that we also exchanged emails a few years ago about some fellow on a 35mm newsgroup, who was proud that he had talked his way out of getting a databack with his new Pentax. I think that there was no extra charge but that he was suspicious of the NY seller's intentions.

I started my own email list through which to show pictures and
discuss photography a few years back, called "SeePhoto".
Conversation is low key and it's open to discussion of photos,
equipment, techniques, etc, without regard to brand-centricism.
