And Pentax is just as bad....  D and Ds use two different formats.

... and neither one is that great. The -DS is at least better in that it doesn't waste 4 bits with zeros for every 12 of data in the file. Neither one compress the RAW data losslessly like just about everyone else does. Also, the -DS has three different sized JPEGs in there as well... one is full size, lowish quality, roughly 1MB each.
