There can be a lot of contrast issues with using slide film for
copying. I would use a moderate contrast negative film to print
from, perhaps shoot a slide as well to give the printer a
reference.
Just because you don't know nor can find who created the
painting does not mean there will not be breach of copyright.
If you are speeding, but a cop doesn't see you, it just means
you got away with it.
