Because the world isn't as simple as the dichotomy you present above. There are many of use who fall somewhere between those two extremes. I know my tools, and I try to use them to produce good pictures. I also try to learn; if I make a mistake, I do my best not to make that same mistake again the next time. But I generally don't go back and re-shoot the image that failed. So - am I a photographer, or just a snapshooter?
