I don't think the woman astronaut is an example of the same kind of thing. She did go into outer space. Since she then had an opportunity that no accomplished Canadian photographer had, her photography and book were legitimate.

What a pile of bat droppings!

The same sort of thing happened here when Canada's first female
astronaut, Roberta Bonday got a great huge government grant to
photograph Canada from the air, and publish it in a book.  She'd never
done a professional photo job in her life, and admitted that she'd
only recently become interested in photography, yet she gets a coupla
hundred thousand to do this book (from which she got the profits,
never having to pay the gov't back a cent).

Things like this pretty much leave a real bad taste in my mouth.
