i was really busy moving house from one side of town to the other, but i did manage to take Memorial Day weekend off to go and take some pictures of nesting great blue herons and other sights in the Adirondack Mountains of New York.

all taken in the Adirondacks. all of the heron shots were taken with an A*400/2.8 with a 1.7X extender. most of the heron images are full frame. the birds were about 60 yards away in the middle of a drowned forest. the sunsets required gradient ND filters. the waterfalls used a B+W 6-stop ND filter plus a polarizing filter. two of the waterfall shots are stacked exposures to capture the full dynamic range. i didn't have Photoshop CS2 when i created the images for posting, so i did it using my Optipix plugins, which are almost as convenient. nowadays, i would use Merge to HDR instead.
