The 1.5 crop is here to stay. Most of the people now buying DSLRs have
never owned a 35mm film camera in their lives, so they have no "before"
experience to confuse them.
People are trying to equate DSLR to 35mm, in part, I suspect because they
can mount the same lens without an adaptor.
We are, however, discussing a different format entirely.
That we can mount our old lenses at all is a happy thing.
We could be the Olympus OM discussion list, after all.
