Is it just me or is the rear of the 7D a butt-ugly ergonomic nightmare?
And that description of the smoothie function is funny. One would have
thought that Minolta should have just built the function in whenever the
camera is in MF.

Never liked Minolta's ergonomics. They once made you buy an accessory
card to program a camera into Av, IIRC. I did have a Hi-Matic when I was
a kid though. That was one fun camera.
