Whew. 24% or even 17.5% taxes on purchases would ruin
my day. Hope you guys get tax breaks in other areas.

When comparing to US prices, remember we have to pay
state and local taxes at the time of sale. In my area
it's 8.5% added to the purchase price.

But we don't have to pay Texas sales tax when buying by
mail order, unless the mail-order company has offices
in Texas. So I buy from out-of-state mail-order firms
quite often to save the 8.5% tax.

Several years ago I was involved with a group of
friends from Switzerland. The got together once a year
and came to the US to vacation and to buy clothes. They
told me they saved so much on clothes that it almost
paid for their trip.
