Backup Drive #2 is disconnected except for when the backup is done. Backup Drive #1 is usually connected and available, to ease workflow.
When I'm going to be away for any time, Backup Drive #2 and the redundant backups on DVD/CD writable media go off-site for safekeeping. (I replicate important collections/projects to optical media.)
