Mark Smith at Pentax informed me that the -DS uses a 480V, 1.2A semiconductor device on the flash trigger. I use my Vivitar 2800 with 270V hotshoe on it without worry after I found that out.

That may be true, but if he's having a difficulty I'd use a Safe Sync anyway. Might as well eliminate all possibilities of error.

I've heard at least 7 different values quoted supposedly from Pentax on the DS flash trigger circuitry's voltage tolerance. I don't trust any of them now. ;-)
