If they are selling everything they can build, they are losing nothing.
Perhaps it's nothing more than the Amarican market being bigger than what Pentax is willing to allocate to it.

Except market share, which you tend to lose if you can't supply the demand, as frustrated consumers go elsewhere.



The choice then would be to decide where you are willing to lose market share. As long as they can sell everything they build, they have enough market share.

Currently they do, but in the future? Plus word gets around that you 'can't get pentax gear', which promotes switching to other brands, which costs market share. Also if you don't have decent market share, retailers won't carry your gear, so sales will eventually go down.
