Yes, Shel, meters were around a long time before that, even
built in meters. Why if you bought a Contax III, or a Rolleiflex
you got one as far back as the late thirties. But up to the
mid-fifties built in meters were not common and many lower
priced cameras didn't have them until well into the sixties, in
fact many high priced cameras didn't have them (Nikon F, Pentax
H-3, Leica III*, M3, M2, etc.), though hand held meters were
common amongst advanced amateurs, many pros and almost all snap
shooters did not use them.
