I'll bet Hasselblad is next to go....

Bummer.

So which way to view the remaining contenders in the market. All poised to fail due to a generally weak market or more opportunity to prosper due to reduction
of competition in the market?

I've been digging into this since it hit the net yesterday. Mamiya is selling their camera division to Cosmos Scientific so they can concentrate on more profitable product lines. They make most of their money from pachinko machines, and also are a major manufacturer of carbon fiber products like golf club shafts and fishing rods. They also make industrial robots.

The man who runs Cosmos Scientific is a former Mamiya staffer. His announced intention is to continue to produce at least some of the cameras. Whether he will license the Mamiya name for those cameras or use a new name has not yet been announced. Mamiya has promised a press release this weekend with full details.
