If pictures were brownies, a raw file would be like a grocery sack
containing a brownie mix, eggs, water and oil. (or whatever else the
mix requires)

Within some limits, you can vary the ingredients and the baking time
to make the brownies just the way you like them.

jpeg file are more like coming home from the bakery with a box of
brownies.  Hope you like them, 'cause they're already cooked.

Glad not addressed to me personally, I've been shooting RAW from just about 
since I first started using a DSLR. May have tried JPGs the first or two times 
around, but not long after that. I had also shot JPGs previously with a 
digital P&S and was unhappy with the over and underexposed areas. Too MUCH like 
slide film. RAW gives me options to fix things up.

Good analogy. I agree. Already cooked.
